Shirley's final bow

The article that I read is about Shirley Temple Black who died Monday night at the age of 85. The first paragraph describes how Shirley Temple that "curly-haired child star who sang, danced, sobbed and grinned" delighted all moviegoers in the 1930's. Publicist Cheryl Kagan said she had died with her family and caregivers at her side. The family has not disclosed the cause of death of Temple.

The family statement cited "We salute her for a life of remarkable achievements as an actor, as a diplomat, and most importantly as our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and adored wife for fifty-five years of the late and much missed Charles Alden Black,"

The article goes into Shirley Temples life of how she transcended into a national phenomenon in 1935 to 1938 in the box-office and boasts that no other child star has yet reached such a feat since. As well as detailing who she surpassed such as Clark Gable, Bing Crosby, Robert Taylor, Gary Cooper and Joan Crawford. She was also credited with saving the studio 20th Century Fox from bankruptcy with her films "Curly Top" and "The Littlest Rebel." Including a drink named after her the "Shirley Temple."

The second part of the article detailed her accomplishments after she left the film business in which she started a family and later entered the political arena as a diplomat to Czechoslovakia during the fall of communism in 1989. In 2006,Temple quipped "I have one piece of advice for those of you who want to receive the lifetime achievement award. Start early." She goes on to say the greatest achievements of her life were as a wife, mother and grandmother. Temple was married for more than 50 years to Charles Black who just died recently in 2005.
